Up for offer is a 1275cc BMC A Series Engine. This particular engine came out of an early 1970 MG Midget. The engine was manufactured for the North American market. Engine tag states that it was for a close ratio gearbox car and the engine is a high compression (8.8 to 1) engine. 1970 was a "smog" engine and the head has the smog ports plugged and no original smog equipment is still on the engine (AIR pump etc.). The full engine number is 12CJ/Da/H 33521.

The first application of the 1275cc A Series engine in the Mini was in 1964, with the advent of the 1275 Mini Cooper S. This particular engine was however a very different animal to the 1275cc engine described on this page; for the Cooper S unit, please refer to the 'External Engine - 970, 1071 and 1275cc (Cooper S)' section of the Somerford Mini catalogue.

The 1275cc BMC A series engine delivering a nominal 65 bhp was fitted between 1966 and 1974. This provided the car with brisk performance for the period allied to very nimble handling that made the car a very quick A to B car, on roads that were still mainly single carriageway with plenty of twists.
