Formerly the colony of British Honduras, Belize is the only country in Central America without a coastline on the Pacific Ocean (only the Caribbean Sea to the east), and the only one in the region with English as its official language. The country is located between Guatemala to the west and south and Mexico to the north. Belize is tough on the wallet, not really part of Central America on a budget but it is still possible to limit the costs!
Guatemala has a rich and distinctive culture from the long mix of elements from Spain and the native . This diverse history and the natural beauty of the land have created a destination rich in interesting and scenic sites. Guatemala is on the cheap side, which make this country a good destination to visit Central America on a budget.

Honduras is the second biggest country in Central America. It has colonial villages (Gracias, Comayagua), ancient Maya ruins (Copan), natural parks (Moskitia), and a Pacific and Caribbean coastline and the Bay Islands, with great beaches and coral reefs where snorkeling and diving are exceptional by any standard. It is worth mentioning that it is one of the cheapest country and probably the best candidate for Central America on a budget. This country is a personal favorite and I’m heading there in 2015!
