Smash Up is primarily a light entertainment filled with fights, assaults and exploiting capabilities of your own race. Playing cards itself would not be so much fun, if it were not for two basic things, which make Smash Up an amazing relaxation and quickie for everyone.
You reveal random locations one card for each player, and add one extra. In two player game will thus be three places to fight, and so on. In these positions your first conflicts between mutated races will be played. And that means now, because Smash Up is just ready to scramble!
The Smash Up: Awesome Level 9000 expansion features 4 all-new distinct factions that you can mix and match to defeat your opponents. Try them with the Core Set to create exponential new combinations!
Killer Plants - Better deal with these guy fast, leave them alone and they'll grow all over the place... like weeds! *rimshot*
Ghosts - Unlike just about every card game in history, Ghosts benefit from having less cards in your hand. Can you be immaterial?
Steampunks - Can't leave a good base alone, the Steampunks will add new abilities to bases to help your strategies.
Bear Cavalry - What's scary? A bear. What's really scary? A cossack riding a bear! Bear Cavalry will use fear to drive opposing minions away to other bases.
Combine these groups into teams of two for various effects! Smash Up: Awesome Level 9000 also contains 8 new Base cards to compete over.
Smash Up is a lighthearted romp through fictional clichés with a lot of heart. The mixing of the different factions creates a ton of replay value, especially if you start mixing in some of the great expansions that are available for the game. This is one of our favorite games when we have a game night with a smaller group.
Smash Up is a new style of "Shufflebuilding" game. Players take two 20-card faction decks, shuffle them together, and start competing to smash bases! However, each faction has a different mechanical focus, and each combination brings unique play to the game. When the game begins, players take turns drafting one of several faction decks. Once each player has two decks, they shuffle them together, combining their distinct abilities into a unique 40-card deck. Players then deal out a number of Base cards, and play their decks to attempt to have the most power on a base when it is scored.
